![]() ![]() I am concerned a bit about it leaking again this winter, with the 4WD being active in the snow, stressing the diff case. Ours was definitely leaking from the back side, about half way up. Had access to a lift, it made it easier to get to the upper back of the diff. Not a drop since I did this, and beats the $1200 repair. I have access to cvtekinfo an searched high an low to find the actual torque specs on the nut an found nothing. The differential fluid must be transported from the differential to the axle through differential tubes. I didn't put the diff in a vacuum like I recommended, but it will help to wick the RTV into the case seam. Then, apply a small amount of vacuum to the nipple at the top of the diff where the vent attaches, smear the best RTV gasket sealer all along the case where they bolt together, as best you can, the back part was the hardest to access, allow it to dry a few hours, fill the diff, hope for the best or be ready for an expensive repair. Then, clean the crap all off the case, where the two halfs join. ![]() There are multiple seals in the differential, and each of them serves a purpose. Your rear differential seal is a type of seal in your differential that prevents the fluid from leaking out. First, verify the vent/vent hose on top of the diff isn't clogged. In order for your car’s differential to work, its gears and bearings should be properly lubricated with differential fluid. I did a temporary fix 4 months ago, it's still holding. I checked our front diff, replaced the side seal, fixed *some* but not all of the leak, and my case was leaking. If you already have a lot of shiny small particles in your fluid, it may be too late. See if your level is low in the differential, not good if it is significantly low. And rightly so! Labor times at the shop is about 10-12 hours, these are a real b*tch to R&R. A lot of these are from the drivers side output seal on the diff, but some are the pinion seal and some turn out to be the diff case, which it seems you are concerned about. First thing you must do is confirm it is the diff leaking.
